MindHaven gives you a dedicated place to work without eating up a large part of your backyard. Within just 6.5sqm, it creates separation between home and work while keeping the footprint deliberately compact.

MindHaven is for people who do not need another large room. They need one dedicated space that helps them work, study or focus without taking over the house.
Its compact 6.5sqm footprint can make sense when you want
For one-person, desk-focused use, that smaller footprint can be an advantage rather than a compromise.
For a focused one-person workspace, you may not need a large studio. The better question is whether the available space supports the way you actually work.
MindHaven gives your working day a defined place of its own without requiring the floor area of a multipurpose garden studio.
The 6.5sqm footprint can be particularly useful when you want an office pod in your backyard but retaining usable outdoor space remains a priority.
A separate workspace can create a clearer physical boundary between working hours and the rest of home life.
Use the space for a desk, chair, screens, storage and the essentials your working setup requires, subject to your preferred layout and specifications.
MindHaven fits a substantial specification into its compact footprint, including a prefabricated steel structure, full insulation, double glazing, finished interiors and electrical essentials.
A prefabricated steel subfloor, walls and roof form the structural framework of the MindHaven.
The floor, walls and roof are insulated, helping create a more comfortable environment for working across Melbourne’s changing seasons.
A double-glazed sliding door and awning window bring natural light into the pod while supporting thermal performance.
The current specification uses Weathertex cladding across the façade and one side, with Colorbond corrugated sheeting completing the remaining sides.
Plastered and painted internal walls, 67mm architraves and skirting, square-set plaster detailing and laminated floorboards create a finished workspace.
The current electrical specification includes double GPOs, switches and internal and external lighting, ready to support the practical requirements of a home workspace.
At 6.5sqm, MindHaven falls below the 10sqm size that is relevant to certain Victorian building permit exemptions. However, its size alone does not mean every MindHaven project is automatically permit-free.
Whether an exemption applies depends on factors such as the proposed use, height, siting, setbacks and other applicable building requirements. Your planning zone, overlays, lot conditions, and other property-specific controls may also affect what is possible on your site.
Backyard Oasis can review the proposed location and intended use before you proceed, rather than relying on the footprint alone to determine the approval pathway.

MindHaven is deliberately compact, making it a strong starting point when your priority is a dedicated workspace rather than a larger multipurpose room.
But even a 6.5sqm pod needs to work with the property around it. Available space, access, boundaries, setbacks, existing structures, trees, services, orientation and relevant property controls can all influence where your pod can go.
We consider those factors alongside how you plan to use the space, helping you determine whether MindHaven is the right Workpod before you commit.

MindHaven FAQs
For a one-person, desk-based workspace, 6.5sqm may provide enough room for a practical home office setup, depending on your furniture, equipment and storage requirements. MindHaven is designed for people who value a dedicated place to focus but do not need the larger footprint of a multipurpose backyard studio.
Not necessarily, but the answer cannot be based on size alone. Certain non-habitable structures under 10sqm may be exempt from a building permit when specific Victorian requirements are satisfied. Height, siting, setbacks, intended use and other conditions matter, so the individual property and proposed MindHaven installation should be checked before proceeding.
MindHaven can provide a separate backyard space for study, reading, creative activities or quiet personal use. However, a Workpod should not automatically be treated as a habitable bedroom or independent residential accommodation. Tell Backyard Oasis how the space will be used so the appropriate building and property requirements can be considered.
Yes. The current MindHaven specification includes insulation to the floor, walls and roof, together with a double-glazed sliding door and awning window. These features help support thermal comfort, although actual internal conditions will also depend on factors such as orientation, weather, shading and how the pod is used.
MindHaven’s main advantage is its 6.5sqm footprint. It is geared towards a focused one-person workspace where preserving backyard area matters. A larger office pod may be more suitable if you need substantial storage, multiple workstations, meeting space or greater flexibility beyond a primarily desk-based setup.
The current MindHaven offering includes a personalised design consultation and choices such as the Weathertex cladding colour. The exact level of customisation available should be discussed during consultation so your preferred layout, finishes and requirements can be confirmed within the final project scope.
