GlidePod primarily suits homeowners looking for a dedicated backyard room, large enough to provide them with a more usable space than a compact office pod can.
Its 30.4sqm footprint can be considered for creating:
GlidePod gives you room to think beyond a single desk or single-purpose room, while you can still keep the new space separate from your main home.
The larger footprint of GlidePod allows you flexibility to accommodate different activities within one studio space without making the room feel limited to just one purpose.
Give painting, craft, design, making or other projects a permanent home where materials and equipment do not need to be packed away after every session.
Move work out of the spare bedroom or dining area and into a dedicated space with room for desks, storage and the equipment your working day requires.
GlidePod can provide a separate place for reading, studying or spending time on personal projects when you want some distance from the activity inside your home.
With 30.4sqm available, the studio can potentially be organised into different functional areas rather than dedicating the entire room to one activity.
GlidePod combines a prefabricated steel structural system with insulation, finished internal surfaces and electrical essentials to create a practical backyard room rather than an unfinished shell. You can also get it personalised through our design consultation. We always ensure that relevant finishes and selections are considered around your preferences and project scope.
The current GlidePod specification includes a prefabricated steel subfloor, walls and roof, forming the structural framework of the studio.
The studio is fully insulated to help create a more comfortable internal environment throughout Melbourne’s changing seasons.
Weathertex cladding forms the façade, with Colorbond corrugated siding to the sides and Colorbond guttering at the rear. Colour selections allow the exterior to be considered alongside your home and backyard.
The current specification includes a single-glazed sliding door and window, bringing natural light into the room and providing a visual connection with the backyard.
Plastered and painted internal walls are complemented by 67mm architraves and skirting, timber tri-quad cornice and laminated floorboards over underlay.
Double power points, switches, internal and external lighting and a caravan socket are included in the current electrical specification.
A 30.4sqm garden studio should not be assumed to be permit-free. A building permit will generally be required for a structure of this size, while planning requirements depend on the property, proposed siting and intended use. Your planning zone, overlays, lot size, setbacks, site conditions, and other property-specific controls can affect what approvals and documentation you will need.
How you plan to use GlidePod also matters. A garden studio intended as a non-residential workspace, hobby room or personal space should not be treated automatically as a small second dwelling intended for residential accommodation.
Backyard Oasis can review your property and proposed use and help coordinate the relevant documentation, engineering and applicable approvals before the project proceeds.

GlidePod provides a generous 30.4sqm footprint, so the first consideration is not simply whether you like the design. It is whether the studio can work effectively with your property.
Available backyard space, installation access, boundaries and setbacks, existing buildings, trees, services, privacy, orientation and applicable planning controls can all affect where the studio can go and what the project requires.
Considering these factors early can help determine whether GlidePod is the right choice before you commit to a particular backyard studio.

Ecovista offers a 30sqm alternative within the Backyard Oasis Garden Studios collection, with a different specification and design approach.
If you do not need around 30sqm of additional space, a smaller backyard office pod may be a better fit for your intended use and available backyard.

GlidePod faqs
GlidePod’s 30.4sqm footprint can suit a backyard office, hobby studio, creative workspace or multipurpose garden room. The right setup depends on what you want to do inside the space, so your intended use should be discussed early when considering the layout, electrical requirements, finishes and relevant property requirements.
The current GlidePod specification includes a prefabricated steel subfloor, walls and roof, full insulation, Weathertex and Colorbond exterior finishes, a single-glazed sliding door and window, finished internal walls, laminated flooring and specified electrical provisions. Final inclusions, selections and any project-specific requirements should be confirmed in your individual quote and contract.
A 30.4sqm garden studio should generally be expected to require a building permit in Victoria. Building permit exemptions that can apply to certain small non-habitable structures are subject to specific requirements and should not be assumed to apply to GlidePod. The design, intended use and property should be assessed before proceeding.
Whether a planning permit is required depends on your individual property rather than the GlidePod model alone. Factors such as lot size, planning zone, overlays, proposed siting and other applicable controls can affect the approval pathway. Backyard Oasis can review these factors to help determine what applies to your proposed project.
GlidePod provides 30.4sqm of studio space, making it suitable when you want more room than a compact office-focused pod typically provides. If you only need a dedicated workspace, a smaller Workpod may be sufficient. If you need room for work, storage, hobbies or multiple activities, GlidePod gives you greater flexibility.
